I am relatively new to his continually searching spiritually-tinged sound, thanks to his musical association with Mingus who's always been a creative agent that helped incubate some luminaries of the New Sound. I don't really regret that I had missed his earliest start-offs with Mingus because with the help of modern conveniences I can go back in time and fill up the missed gems which is what I do virtually every moment I am on my gadget. His Sweden live concerts, that were filled to capacity, with Mingus, are some of the masterpieces to be captured for posterity; his true genius only shines whenever taking his cue to solo and would relish it by stretching out much to the delight of the audience. Pity, he left us when still very young but we still celebrate his timeless and enduring musical presence. Indeed, So long Eric.

An amazing improviser. Eric was one who new no limitations to the development of the music he heard. He explored each instrument to its fullest. Life for Eric Dolphy was centered around Eric finding those musical elements that created the sound he forever searched for. Live was timeless. Music was one of the great creation humans were given to inform the universe. It will continue until wee are no longer here.
